Amazon announces three new DCs

New fulfillment centres coming for Texas, Illinois and Florida

Seattle, Washington—Continuing its blistering pace of expansion, since July 22 Amazon has announced the openings of three new DCs in the US.

Together the three new sites will include 2.4 million square feet of warehouse space and employ more than 2,500 in full-time jobs.

At its 800,000-square-foot fulfillment centre in Jacksonville, Florida Amazon will create more than 1,500 full-time jobs. Amazon employees will pick, pack and ship small items to customers such as books, electronics and consumer goods. Associates will work alongside innovative technologies to fulfill customer orders.

Amazon’s seventh Texas fulfillment centre in Houston includes plans to create 1,000  full-time positions. Elsewhere in the Lone Star State, Amazon currently operates fulfillment centres in Coppell, Haslet, Dallas, Fort Worth, and Schertz, with 10,000 employees. An upcoming facility in San Marcos is currently under construction.

Amazon employees at the 855,000-square-foot Houston fulfillment centre will pick, pack and ship smaller customer items, such as books, electronics and toys.

Romeoville, Illinois is the company’s most recent announcement. Amazon employees at the more than 750,000 square-foot facility will pick, pack and ship large items to customers such as big-screen televisions, sports equipment or kayaks, for example. The company does not specify exactly hoew many will be employed, there, simply noting that hiring has begun for hundreds of full-time positions.
